Hi Everyone- I want to share some great news with you.
Last year, I filed a case with the Taipei City Labor Department claiming that a well known cram school discriminated against me during the hiring process. The complaint was for:
1) discrimination against appearance
2) discrimination against birthplace (Taiwan)
I finally received the results of the case last week, and the court ruled in my favor for point 2, discrimination against birthplace. It wasn't an easy process, but I can say it was well worth my time. The school has been fined 100,000NT by the government and I know I did my part in changing things, if only by a little, in moving this discrimination and ignorance forward.
Last but not least, this is embarrassing but important to share.... upon finding out the results of this case I sat in my living room and hysterically bawled my eyes out. I didn't realize how much tension and stress I had been holding onto inside me. The court ruling has made me feel lighter in my everyday life, and I hope those of you out there who are in the position to DO SOMETHING will, as there is much more that needs to be done for change to occur.
